Presentation:

The Marcelo Martins project aims to dismantle and properly recycle abandoned ships in Guanabara Bay and the São Lourenço Canal in Niterói, seeking the sustainable reuse of all materials. After the naval crisis in the country, the naval market collapsed and businessmen went into debt, closed the shipyards, dismissed the employees and abandoned the boats in Guanabara Bay and the São Lourenço Channel. These vessels can cause environmental disaster, such as oil spills and other chemical components in the water spill contaminating the ecosystem. The recycling of vessels will benefit the fishing community, improve the health of the local population and also the shipbuilding industry.

The project:

This document aims to show how the Marcelo Martins project will be beneficial to the Guanabara Bay region, as the project seeks to remove abandoned ships from the site and give them a new use and the materials they carry. Thus seeking to generate new jobs in the region in addition to reusing these ships in a sustainable and appropriate manner, thus avoiding a possible environmental disaster in the region. Another objective of this document is to explain to the competent and governmental authorities how much this project can help in the tourist development of the area without the ships that devalue the Guanabara Bay in a landscape, real estate and economic way.

The goal:

In this way, the project of the company Demario, chaired by Rodrigo da Silva Demario, has as main objective the disassembly and proper recycling of abandoned ships from Guanabara Bay, for a better reuse of materials that could be harmful and toxic to the local fauna and flora as mentioned above.
In addition to having as a secondary objective the generation of new positions and jobs with the project, and generally a better environment and tourist landscape in the region where these abandoned ships would be disposed.

And with the withdrawal of these same ships that contain materials harmful to human beings and the local environment, consequently preventing a possible environmental disaster in the region, which is one of the city's postcards. In addition, we seek to show how relevant the importance of the project is to the population of the metropolitan region of the State of Rio de Janeiro, and how the government incentive is fundamental for the implementation of this project.

Abandoned markings on the São Lourenço Canal

Abandoned vessels in the São Lourenço Canal, offer threats to the surrounding community, as pollution and ploriferation of venomous animal nests and insects in the hull are left in the open. Aedes Aegypti is the mosquito that transmits dengue, Chikungunya, Zika and urban yellow fever that can proliferate in the standing water of the boats and sting the population, threatening the health of the local community.

Fishing Terminal of Niterói-RJ

The Niterói-RJ fishing terminal is about 7,200m², built for industrial fishing boats to be able to dock and unload up to 25 tons of fish per day, but unfortunately it never opened. Although the structures for unloading fisheries in the city are precarious, the potential for economic activity in Niterói is great.

Fully submerged vessels are found in Guanabara Bay, as previously reported, these vessels can cause accidents, steepness and pollution to the location.
